Interestingly, human head lice have had thousands of years to learn how to survive and thrive on the human scalp. What does survive and  thrive mean? The life cycle of the human head louse is only 30 days. Therefore the louse needs to assure that during that 30 day window, she lays as many eggs as possible. She also needs to make sure that many offspring are produced. This ensures the survival of the species, as satellite lice spread to new hosts.
