lice picture. Chances are you will never see a head louse before you know your child has lice. Head lice have had thousands of years to evolve so that they cannot be seen by the human eye. A healthy head louse is completely clear like a jelly fish, more like the first image.  So while you are looking through your child’s hair, you are also looking right through any lice that might be there. The louse in the second image is slightly brown and lice start to turn brown when they are deprived of oxygen. So if you can figure out a way to suffocate a head louse, you can see that louse. What are good ways to suffocate a head louse? You can apply olive oil to the hair and scalp and head lice do not like olive oil. Olive oil makes it difficult for lice to cling to the hair and to have their eggs or nits attach to the hair shaft. Olive oil also clogs the louse’s breathing pores, which are little tubes in their shells called spiracles.

Head lice are extremely sensitive to light, temperature and humidity and are very unlikely to be seen on top of your hair, unless you have had head lice for at least 4-6 months and your scalp is getting crowded.
